EFT tapping for scan anxiety

Jamie was having extreme anxiety about taking a necessary medical test.

Jamie had previously had a traumatic experience in an MRI machine. The result was severe panic attacks during all subsequent imaging tests. Jamie had a critical test scheduled for the next day and was extremely concerned about “freaking out” and not being able to complete it.

Results after 1 90-minute session with EFT tapping for the scan anxiety: Jamie’s anxiety level about the scan dropped from 9/10 to 3/10. I instructed Jamie on techniques to use that same day and before/during the scan the next day to address the remaining anxiety.

After the scan, Jamie sent this message: “Test went absolutely fine! No anxiety. It was over before I knew it. Thank you so much.”

EFT tapping for grief and trauma

Even with counseling, Frankie remained stuck in the grieving process after a traumatic loss.

Three months prior to our first session, Frankie had unexpectedly lost a family member under disturbing circumstances. Despite counseling and use of a tapping app, Frankie wasn’t making as much progress as they had hoped.

Frankie’s concerns:

  • Inability to sleep because of memories from the day of the death.
  • Inability to drive in the neighborhood where the death occurred (which was close to Frankie’s home) without becoming emotionally distraught.
  • Inability to speak of the death without an extreme amount of emotion (which was affecting Frankie’s tolerance for counseling).

Results after 4 90-minute sessions with EFT tapping for grief and trauma:

  • Frankie was able to sleep through most of the night. Frankie reported that bad dreams still occurred at times, but it was easier to fall back to sleep.
  • Frankie reported having an easier time driving in the neighborhood where the death occurred.
  • Frankie was able to talk about the day of the death with minimal emotional upset and was starting to get more out of counseling sessions.

Frankie continued to see a counselor to help with the grieving process.

Acupressure and Myofascial Release for a traumatic injury

Sam was struggling with a severe injury that affected their left arm.

Sam had a bad fall that broke their left arm close to the shoulder joint and caused nerve damage which affected movement in the entire arm and hand. Doctors had performed surgery to fix the fracture, and Sam received occupational and physical therapy both in inpatient rehab and through home health care services.

Sam was still receiving outpatient physical therapy (3 months after the fall) when they came for their first session for acupressure and myofascial release to address the traumatic injury.

Sam’s concerns:

  • Sam stated they felt like their body was still in shock, and they didn’t feel like there was any energy moving through the left side.
  • The appearance of the left arm and hand bothered Sam, as both looked rigid and pale despite ongoing physical therapy.
  • Moving the left arm and hand at all felt stiff and painful despite good carry over of all previous therapy recommendations. This limited how Sam could use the left arm during normal daily tasks.

Results after 6 sessions with acupressure and myofascial release for this traumatic injury:

  • Sam reported feeling like they weren’t in shock anymore, and they felt more balanced between the left and right sides of their body.
  • The left arm had a more normal color and rested in a more natural, comfortable position.
  • There was significantly less stiffness and discomfort in the muscles and joints. Sam could move the arm and hand more easily resulting in better quality of movement during daily tasks.

Acupressure and EFT tapping with cancer

Alex was dealing with cancer-related concerns that affected her ability to function and communicate well.

Alex had been diagnosed with metastatic cancer three years prior to our first meeting. She had undergone multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation and had received psychotherapy several times during that period.

Alex was seeking help with several specific issues:

  • memories of difficult experiences with the oncologist that were affecting Alex’s ability to talk to the doctor about treatment options and preferences,
  • unsettling physical reactions that occurred whenever Alex read medical test results (even if the results were good),
  • overwhelmingly negative thoughts when looking at her surgical scars while bathing and dressing.

Results after 6 sessions with acupressure and EFT tapping for these cancer-related concerns:

  • Alex could communicate consistently with the oncologist in ways that felt empowering and respectful without being triggered by memories of past encounters.
  • The intensity of the physical reactions when reading test results decreased from 7/10 to 0.
  • The intensity of the negative thoughts when looking at her scars decreased from 8/10 to 2/10.

Occupational therapy and EFT tapping for chronic pain and chronic fatigue

Casey felt frustrated with their lack of progress in their struggle with chronic pain and chronic fatigue.

Background

Casey was completely healthy and independent until eight months prior to our initial session when they started having weakness in both legs and constant pain in multiple body areas. Doctors finally diagnosed Casey with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia.

Prior to the start of symptoms, Casey was physically very active and health conscious, raising a family, working, and involved in community activities. At the time of our first meeting, Casey needed significant assistance with all household activities and childcare and was unable to maintain a normal work schedule.

To manage symptoms, Casey used prescribed pain medication, acupuncture, neurofeedback, psychotherapy, and meditation. Though Casey said this combination of interventions helped the symptoms to some extent, Casey was unsatisfied with the outcomes and felt the situation was unsustainable long-term.

Summary

Casey participated in a total of 10 sessions of occupational therapy and/or EFT tapping to address chronic pain and chronic fatigue. This resulted in significant improvements in energy levels, quality of life, pain, function, and activity tolerance.

One year after the final session: Casey reported they were back to full, pain-free independence with all home and community-level tasks and were enjoying their life.

Details

The first 5 visits were 90-minute EFT tapping sessions and took place over 6 weeks. Casey then discontinued services for 6 months due to family issues. During that period, Casey found that time, in and of itself, didn’t result in continued progress.

When Casey resumed services, their status was stable but not much improved from our last session six months prior. Casey was functioning better with basic tasks at home but still needed a lot of help to manage the household. They also still struggled with community-level activities and needed someone to push them in a wheelchair when out of the house for an extended period to prevent excessive fatigue.

Casey really wanted to take a weekend trip with old friends but wasn’t sure how they could manage being away from home without symptoms becoming severe again. Casey didn’t know how to handle an unfamiliar setting and was afraid of ruining the trip for everyone.

The remaining sessions (divided between EFT tapping and occupational therapy) took place monthly over a 5 month period at Casey’s request.
