An Integrative Approach When Your Symptoms Don’t Fit Neatly Into One Category

People often arrive here with a sense that, despite their best efforts, they’re not moving forward the way they expected. Farfalla Integrative Health offers integrative occupational therapy and therapeutic mind-body services designed for situations like this.

You may have had an illness, injury, medical procedure, or life event that left your system on high alert. Even though tests may be normal and therapy or treatments helped to some degree, something still feels off – like you’re not doing as well as you thought you would by now.

Your challenges might not fall under one clear label. Symptoms may be physical, emotional, cognitive, or some combination of the three, often influencing one another in ways that make progress difficult.

If your goal is to feel and function better despite your challenges, the overview below can help you decide whether this practice might be a good fit for you.

How This Work Is Different

The work we do takes an integrative approach. Rather than treating issues in isolation, the work addresses how each piece of the puzzle (physical, cognitive, emotional, environmental) currently affects your ability to live life your way.

This approach allows care to be tailored more precisely to what’s actually driving your current challenges.

Whether your concerns are clearly defined or harder to name, the goal is the same: to help you make meaningful progress so you more easily function at your best in the activities most important to you.

Many clients find the work grounding and easier to apply to their everyday lives than they initially expected.

While emotions and nervous system regulation may be part of the process when relevant, Farfalla Integrative Health does not provide psychotherapy.

If this approach seems aligned with what you’re looking for, you can explore services or schedule a brief call to discuss options.

Who This Work Is Designed For

People benefit from working with Farfalla Integrative Health under many different types of circumstances. Below are some examples when this practice can be a good fit. (You don’t need to relate to every item for the work to be relevant for you.)

  • You’re dealing with persistent (and often unexplained) symptoms. These may include:
    • Pain, fatigue, or insomnia
    • cognitive challenges such as brain fog
    • movement limitations
    • anxiety (especially related to specific people or situations)
    • memories that negatively affect the way you think, act, or function in your daily life,
  • Medical care or psychotherapy has helped to some degree, but you’re still not satisfied with the way things are.
  • You look like you’re functioning well (or well enough) to other people, but the effort required to keep everything together is exhausting.

  • Your challenges seem to fall between the physical and emotional – like one piece feeds the other and creates an endless, frustrating loop.

  • You’ve had enough of endless talking and analysis and are looking for practical ways to improve how you feel and function day to day.

It’s okay if you’re not sure if this type of work is what you need. Feel free to schedule a brief phone call or video chat to discuss your situation.

Services Offered at Farfalla Integrative Health

Some people who find Farfalla Integrative Health know exactly what they’re looking for and book one specific service (such as EFT tapping or acupressure). Others aren’t sure what fits best. You don’t need to know the “right” service before starting. We can figure that out together over a brief phone call or video chat if needed.

No matter how you begin, the work as a whole centers on making everyday life better. You’ll always have the option to engage in other services as appropriate.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy helps you find solutions in the areas where you’re struggling to successfully do the things that matter to you. Sessions may incorporate activity-based strategies, nervous system–informed approaches, or hands-on/body-based techniques as appropriate.

Available in person or virtually for residents of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Myofascial Release (John Barnes method)

Myofascial release is a body-based method that helps loosen restrictions in the fascia (a type of connective tissue) to help reduce pain and movement restrictions. Farfalla Integrative Health uses the John Barnes method for all myofascial release services. This is a whole-body approach that’s different from standard massage or trigger point therapy.

Myofascial release is provided under occupational therapy services.

Available in person only.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT Tapping)

EFT tapping is a structured, evidence-informed, mind-body approach used to support nervous system regulation and reduce the emotional intensity on sensations, memories, or thoughts that you find distressing.

Available in person (in Lafayette Hill, PA) or virtually (worldwide).

Acupressure

Acupressure is a gentle, non-invasive, body-based approach that can help balance your system and reduce physical or emotional tension. You can book acupressure as a stand-alone service or integrated with other care when appropriate.

Available in person (in Lafayette Hill, PA) or virtually.
